There is a worldwide movement of people who are looking to minimize their bills and their lives in general. They often look for small spaces to call home that also comes with a small mortgage or none at all. This is the tiny house movement and is more popular with each passing year.
When you have a tiny home, you have to get creative with how you set up the space. You have to make sure that you use the space wisely. It also comes with some nice benefits like decorating with custom large wall decals that maybe wouldn’t work in a larger space.
In this article, we will go over some of the best ways to set up a tiny home for maximum comfort in a minimal amount of space.
1. Be organized
Making good use of the space is an obvious thing that everybody can agree is one of the most important factors in setting up a tiny house. Yet, not many people know how to organize a system that allows them to save space and have easy access to everything they need on a daily basis.
The first thing to do is to organize everything you have by category and then put them in groups. For instance, you’ll have items that belong in the kitchen category and others that belong in the bedroom category. Then you have to divide your space into zones. Even though you have an open concept, set a certain area to be designated the kitchen zone and another the living zone, for instance.
This way, when you set up the containers for storage, you will have the right place for every item so you have it handy. It won’t work if you just put things wherever they fit without thinking of how the space will be used and what you’ll need to use in that space.
2. Use furniture correctly
Your furniture needs to do two tasks in a tiny home situation. The first is obviously to permit sitting or dining as you would normally expect furniture to be for. The second is to use as storage. You should always look for your furniture to offer a way to store things out of the way. For instance, if you have a couch, then make sure that it is a storage bench that has cushions on top that can be removed. You can put things like blankets and pillows in there.
If you can’t store things in it or on it, then make sure it can be used in multiple ways. A dining table should also allow for use as a work desk with space for a laptop.
3. Use every dimension
Use every inch of space that’s under, above, or on top of. You’ll need some shelving to take items off of the floor and onto the walls. You can also put rails on the ceiling and hang containers from there that slide in and out for extra storage. This is a good place to keep your out-of-season clothing.
