Parents with small children as well as people who love being active can never get enough of long walks and picnics in the nearby park. Wouldn’t it be great if you could have everything you love about parks in your own backyard? Backyards, gardens, and patios are the best, and you can easily transform them into an oasis of peace, as well as your own personal playground your children will love. We give you a list of creative solutions for a comfortable outdoor area you can make yourself.
A Creative Corner
Children love getting dirty, and they are always so creative: messing around with watercolors and crayons for hours at a time. Why not put their love of art to good use and create lovely decorations for your garden at the same time? Give them a small plastic table where they can sit and provide a heap of nice, flat stones for them to paint. They can create mosaics, paint rocks so they resemble cacti, lizards, and ladybirds, and even create small sculptures such as stone feet or stone angels. Not only will they have a corner for themselves, but you’ll inspire them to be creative and get lovely decorations for your garden at the same time.
For the love of Fire
Fireplaces in homes are a source of great joy, especially during autumn and winter. The warmth of the fire and the smell of burning wood are best enjoyed with a good book and a soft blanket, so why not give yourself the pleasure of enjoying a fire all year long? Having a fireplace in your backyard means that you will be able to have barbecues and enjoy romantic evenings with that special someone. Outdoor fireplaces are natural places for people to gather around and socialize, and if you put your mind to it and create a fireplace or a simple fire pit that is a bit different, people will fall in love with it.
Vertical Gardens
Who doesn’t like the idea of having their own herbs and vegetables to use in delicious meals? However, it can be a bit difficult to have your own vegetable garden to look after, which is why a great number of people choose to have small vertical gardens instead. You can use pretty much any vertical surface you want: the wall of your house or your garden shed, for example. You only need a few flower pots or mason jars you can attach to a plank or directly to a wall, fill it with dirt, and grow your own basil, mint, or perhaps tomatoes.
Attract Birds
Spending time outside will be much more enjoyable if you can listen to the lovely chipper of birds which will help you relax. Fortunately, it doesn’t take much to attract different birds to your yard; all you need is a couple of strategically placed bird feeders you can fill with crumbs or seeds on a regular basis. Bird feeders are easy to make out of practically anything: mason jars, old teacups, plastic water bottles, etc. If you want to create small works of art, you can use old teapots and teacups, glue them to a pole, and place them close to your flowers or hang them from a tree. Not only are these feeders great for birds, they are also charming to look at.
Sun Catchers
Suncatchers and wind chimes are easy to make and they are elegant, romantic, and eye-catching at the same time. There are simple ones made of plastic beads and embroidery hoops, ones made of old punch glasses and glass jewelry beads, and kid-friendly ones made of plastic lids, white glue, and food coloring. You can easily make some yourself or have your kids help you out, and you will be able to sit back and enjoy the sun afterward.
Create a Reading Nook
Is there a better place to lose yourself in a good book than your own garden? Surrounded by greenery, the chipper of birds, and the smell of flowers, it is easy to imagine you’re in one of your books. Still, in order to spend time in your garden you have to be prepared: apply sunscreen, have comfy pillows and wait for the temperature to be just right. By choosing to install commercial shade sails in your yard, you will get the perfect place to spend time come rain or shine. Place a comfy bean bag under the shade sail, bring your ice-cold lemonade or cup of hot chocolate, and spend a pleasant afternoon in the fresh air.
You don’t have to be a creative genius or a talented designer to create a wonderful outdoor area for yourself and your entire family. We don’t often get a chance to spend time outside because our way of life binds us to the indoors, but if you make an effort and turn your plain old garden into a little piece of heaven, you will certainly do your best to spend as much time out in the open as you can.
